Beetroot, Carrot, Apple & Walnut Salad GF SCD


The deep, rich colour of beetroot makes salads very attractive and packed full of nutrients. It contains a unique source of phytonutrients called betalains which have been proven to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. A source of folate, manganese, potassium, vitamin C, tryptophan, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and copper, this sweet vegetable is also believed to be good for the heart and a great liver cleanser.

Roasted Parsnips GF


Parsnips are one of my favourite vegetables. We considered these sweet and slightly knobbly root vegetables to be an enormous treat when I was growing up but they were rarely roasted in the oven. They were fried in the chip pan instead. But I didn't realise until just recently that they aren't anywhere near as popular outside of Europe.

Grain Free Spice Biscuits GF SCD


I set out to create some crunchy ginger biscuits yesterday and ended up with spice biscuits. I made another batch today, altering the spices a little to achieve a more ginger taste, but here is the recipe for the ones I made yesterday which were a huge hit with the family.

I thought cinnamon was just "cinnamon" until I started my research and was fascinated to discover that if you live in the United States, the cinnamon you are most likely to buy is known as cassia which is not the "true" cinnamon.

Valentine's Day Grain Free Pizza GF SCD


In the '60's and 70's, Valentine's Day wasn't commercialised. It was the day when someone anonymously declared their love for another by sending unsigned cards or gifts and the fun part was trying to guess who had sent them!

Turmeric - Dhal GF SCD


Turmeric is believed to be one of the world's greatest natural healers and references to the spice can be found in the ancient Hindu scripture, Atharva-Veda. A principle spice in Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric was also considered to be a valued ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine from about 700 A.D.
