Sainsbury's have a wonderful range of reasonably priced "free from" chocolate eggs to choose from! There are several brands of chocolate that are certified gluten free but finding tasty chocolate Easter eggs which are gluten free AND dairy free can be quite a challenge especially if you're searching for children who don't always want to be presented with a rich, dark chocolate egg - though that would make me very happy!
Celtic Chocolates manufacture a range of award nominated & winning chocolates and their factory is totally free from ingredients & raw material containing gluten, wheat and egg.
The Choices White Chocolate Egg with White Chocolate Buttons above is perfect for young children (and adults too!). Cutely packaged, the egg is suitable for coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians and contains 30% minimum cocoa solids. This very adorable and appealing white chocolate bunny is also part of their white chocolate range...
Searching the internet for some reviews, I discovered these messages on their FB page :
"I can't call them Easter bunnies as none of the 3 I've bought so far have survived that long!"
"White chocolate vegan bunnies are being eaten by the dozen in my house"
Other Easter eggs from the Choices brand suitable for coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians include this caramel flavoured Easter egg below...
as well as this "delicious alternative to milk chocolate" Easter egg with 6 chocolate discs...
The Sainsbury's "free from" Dark Chocolate Easter egg with plain chocolate discs weighs 200 grams, contains 60% cocoa solids minimum and is also suitable for coeliacs, vegans and vegetarians.
The only Easter egg which specified on the packaging that it was nut free is this one below manufactured by Kinnerton who "go to extraordinary lengths to try and make our chocolates safe for people with Nut Allergy". Their dairy free, egg free, gluten free and nut free luxury dark chocolate Easter egg with dark chocolate bar is made with "special care" and contains cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, soya lecithin and vanilla flavouring with cocoa solids of 55% minimum. I tried this chocolate last year and was very pleasantly surprised and you may like to read the review I found on Veggies.co.uk.
If you suffer from food allergies, please be safe and remember to double check with a manufacturer if you are at all unsure about the ingredients.
I decided not to reveal my own feelings regarding the taste of these eggs since everyone's opinion tends to differ about chocolate and I've found that the brands of chocolate I prefer are not necessarily the brands that my friends prefer. So the only way you will discover if you like the eggs above is by trying them and you can take great comfort from the fact they are pretty much guaranteed to be free from dairy and gluten!
