The Versatile Blogger Award

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a wonderful new blog called Coconut and Berries. The tempting and tasty vegan recipes on this site are all created by Emma, a student in the UK! I felt both surprised and honoured when she recently nominated me for The Versatile Blogger Award, thank you so much Emma, you made my day!

It's a very difficult task to select people to pass this award on to from all the amazing blogs I read . Who can I choose when everyone seems to be so versatile? In the end, I have decided to nominate some wonderful bloggers who I haven't selected for an award before and if you are nominated, this is how it works:

  • Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
  • Acknowledge the blogger on your blog and link back.
  • Share 7 random, interesting things about yourself.
  • Nominate up to 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award, provide a link to their blogs in your post, and notify them on their blogs.
  • Copy and paste the award somewhere on your blog.

So now for seven random things you may not know about me...

  1. I have an enormous fear of flying but, despite this, I have managed to travel to Canada 3 times to see my son and his family.
  2. I was born with rhesus disease and had a complete blood transfusion straight after birth, we even have a photo of the actual blood donor somewhere since privacy was not deemed necessary back then.
  3. I used to hitch-hike to places when I was in my teens - such a daft thing to do and probably one of the reasons why I became quite an over protective mother.
  4. Years ago, I was very interested and fascinated by Tarot Cards, I still have the cards wrapped in silk but I haven't done a reading for some time.
  5. I once saw a ghost - yes it's true! I was in my early teens and visiting my Grandmother when I saw a figure walking up the stairs. I called out thinking it was my Aunt. It was dark and the figure stopped and seemed to turn to me but then continued up the staircase. I didn't think anything of it until I soon discovered that everyone was downstairs - no one had ventured out of the living room!
  6. I don't like wearing make-up. Having had a bad allergic reaction when I was in my teens, I rarely wear much more than a light foundation.
  7. I hate heels on shoes! I love them on others but not on me!

After much thought, here are the very lovely ladies and gentleman who I would like to nominate for the award :

Gabby of The Veggie Nook
Carrie from Carrie on Vegan

    1. You are most welcome Gabby! I have really enjoyed reading your blog, it feels like "home"!

Since I didn't know I'd seen a ghost, it didn't freak me out at the time. I always hated walking up the stairs in the house or down for that matter! I always felt someone was watching my as the stairs turned the corner!

Even my father felt something in the house!

  3. Vicky,
What an honor to be included among these other bloggers! Thank you! I don't like flying either - and I worked in the airline industry for 10+ years. It never does get easier (or at least I don't think it does).
    Hugs!!

    1. Your posts and recipes are wonderful Megan, thank you for your creativity! Flying has got a little easier for me, not because I'm OK with it, but because at the other end is my beautiful little grandson and my "other" family!!

    1. Thank you for the nomination Emma and thank you for thinking about me, I was so chuffed!

I think I should have added "if I can avoid it" too! On special occasions I do have a pair of wedges!

  7. Congrats, Vicky! I enjoyed reading these things about you! I've never seen a ghost, but I've heard them. My in-laws' home, built in 1802, actually had more than one ghost. When I was there alone, I would occasionally hear a carriage drive up, the horses' feet click clopping on the road, and the doors of the carriage slam. Many others over the years have heard the same ghosts. And there are several other ghosts in the house, although there are long periods of dormancy. They were pretty active, especially the little girl that people actually saw, when my husband was a boy there. Their house's story is documented in a series of books on Virginia ghosts. Oh, and I wear no make-up except lipstick occasionally and rarely wear heels any more.

    Shirley

    1. Thank you Shirley! I don't think I would have liked to have been left alone in your in'laws' house, how creepy! My grandma's house was eerie! Just as the stairs tuned there was a bookcase and a window. As I walked down towards the window, I always felt a chill on my shoulders. If I needed to use the bathroom, I would always ask someone to go up with me, even as a child I could sense something wasn't quite right.

Years later, my Father - a very practical Yorkshireman - admitted that he too had this same feeling. Once when I was sleeping over, I was laying in bed and felt something softly falling against my legs. I took a peek from under the covers but didn't see anything. Trust me, I took a suitcase full of dolls and soft toys to share the bed with me when I stayed there!

Seeing the ghost though was quite strange, I was moving between rooms and I just thought it was one of the family, it didn't disturb me at all! No funny shivery feeling. After that, I stopped being as scared when I was there since I guessed it was a friendly ghost.

Perhaps there is some kind of energy released in certain places from time to time which creates unexplained images! Who knows, I haven't seen one since, thank goodness!

I would be very interested in reading this series of books, it sounds fascinating! xo

  8. What an honor, Vicky!! Thank you, thank you. What great company. I look forward to check out An Aussie with Crohn's. :-)

I enjoyed reading your seven random things. You are too cute. I've never seen a ghost! And that scares me beyond belief that others have. Until I see one though, I pretend they don't exist (I have a very active imagination...cannot watch scary movies). Make-up is only at work for me. I'm too tall for heals (but like to wear them from time to time with I go out and get dressed up). I've never hitched hiked before and once had someone read tarot cards with me.

Thanks again, Vicky. I look forward to working on my nominations. :-)
